The walk for Wednesday 28th August had originally been cancelled due to the leaders illness
but Brian Peake took over and led 15 members on the 6.2 mile walk.
We met in the village of Earl Sterndale, and took the uphill road behind the church and then on
the long track past the extensive area of the Hindlow limestone quarry. Heavy rai started to fall
at the end of our drinks break, and continued for quite a while.
At the entrance to Sloop Farm we took the steep downwards concessionary path on the left,
towards and around Chrome Hill, and then across difficult paths to reach the road opposite
Parkhouse Hill, and views of Hollins Hill. After lunch we passed through several fields
containing a very large and noisy flock of sheep, and crossed over the road to walk up the
steep Hitter Hill, which gave us a chance to look back over the rolling hills and valleys.
Back down in the village we discovered the free roaming chickens taking shelter in the porch of
the local pub, where inside we also took refuge! Pleased to be out despite thr soaking.
