Todays walk of 4 miles in the Goostrey area had to be changed because of recent bad weather,
many thanks to our leader Geoff Bradshaw for arranging it.
28 members met at the Crown Goostrey, where we were to return for lunch. We walked through
the pretty village. where there were plenty of snowdrops and daffodils in bloom. We turned
into Sandy Lane, where we had large areas of water to navigate. A solid path between
saturated fields had lovely flower displays attached to the fencing, and then we turned onto a
concessionary path which had areas of crocus and daffodils appearing through the grassy areas
A drinks break was taken here. Moving on we later retraced our steps back into the village and then
walked through in the opposite direction.
This brought us to a photo opportunity with the Jodrell Bank telescope in the background, and then
into more of a woodland area. We came across the bizarre sight of a toilet partly surrounded by
fencing, which had everyone laughing. We saw signs here for the Blackden Trust, which we
thought was possibly a nature reserve. However according to Facebook the trust is a guardian
of a piece of land occupied for more than 10 thousand years, has 2 ancient houses, and
they explore its history through artefacts, documents etc. Visit their Facebook page for photos and
more details of tours and a variety of events.
Finally we circled around and returned to the pub in light rain, but pleased to have been out walking.
