13 walkers, including 1 new member, 1 guest and 1 visitor, joined this 9.5 mile walk from Longnor to Hartington and back, down the east side of the Dove Valley and back along the west side. On the way out we looked at Pilsbury Castle, an iron age hill fort, which was used later by the Normans as the site of a motte and bailey castle. Here a group photo was taken.

Some of us bought cheese at the Old Cheese Shop in Hartington, which sparked a discussion about the relative merits of British and French cheeses.

On the return leg towards Longnor we saw some archeology around Under Whitle Farm. These 4 photos of the information boards were also taken on the recce.

It was generally agreed that it had been a good walk. Some of us even had tea and cake at the Moorland Cafe in Longnor, despite it being nominally past closing time.
