A 10-mile walk on Sunday 3rd May from Biggin Village Hall was led by Dave Martin, who writes:
We encountered some drizzle on our drive both to and from Biggin, but remarkably it stayed dry all day. However, the walk included many fields with very long grass which was quite wet after rain in the night so all of us ended up with very wet boots and extremely soggy socks.
There were nine of us in total, with guests from Nottingham joining us. Our route from Biggin took us to the A515, which we crossed and proceeded to Cardle View. From here we crossed several fields of long wet grass and a couple of fields planted with crops where the farmer had left a clear path for walkers. This led us to The HIgh Peak Trail which we followed to just beyond the Gotham Curve where we paused for coffee. We left the trail on a path to the right and walk through more long wet grass to Cardle Lane. We followed this and a track to the left which led us through even more fields of long wet grass to Parwich.
We made our way into the well-kept village where we sat in the bus shelter and took advantage of the benches on the village green for our lunch stop. Several walkers also spent a few minutes looking around the church.
After this we retraced our steps through the village to walk past the school, where a path to the right led across fields with shorter grass and a newly installed gate and footbridge to a lane. After a couple of hundred yards we picked up more field paths to enter Eaton Dale which we followed up to Rivendale Campsite on the A515.
After crossing the main road, a lane led us to the Tissington Trail. As it was a Sunday and a Bank Holiday Weekend, the trail was very busy with cyclists. After following the trail for about a mile, we turned left and continued across fields back to Biggin for a much needed change into dry socks and footwear.
Our friends from Nottingham really enjoyed the day and said they would definitely include the walk in a future programme.
