A cloudy cooler morning on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 but pleasant conditions for the 7 mile walk from Warslow. 12 members met in Quarter Lane close to the church, and then we set off, with Ian Carter leading, up to and along Leek Rd before taking a left turn onto the first footpath. We would take lane and field paths throughout the walk, together with designated footpaths with stiles.
Following his initial recce Ian had returned to parts of the route to tackle overgrown vegetation, to make it easier for us to walk through, but it was still difficult at times. We walked to Upper Elkstone first, and then as we continued we took drinks breaks as the temperature started to rise. The undulating route, which gave us some beautiful extensive views, continued into Butterton where we stopped for lunch in the church grounds.
From the village we picked up the footpaths again and continued to walk up and downhill as we returned to Warslow in much sunnier weather. A very enjoyable time out, in this stunning area.
